Jane Ellen has been composing since 1986, with 40 published pieces and a catalogue of over 300 titles. These include works for chamber orchestra, choir, piano, voice, and various chamber ensembles. She has collaborated with playwright Christina Hamlett on several musical theater projects and recently composed the theme for the television documentary The Man Who Lost the Civil War. Originally from California and now residing in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ms. Ellen has traveled extensively throughout her life. For several years she had her own jazz and variety band and worked in a number of musical theater productions while completing her degree with majors in Music Performance and Religious Studies at the University of New Mexico. Ms. Ellen has received annual awards from ASCAP since 1990 and won several competitions. She has received commissions from the MTNA Foundation, the New Music Across America Festival, and others. Her works have been showcased internationally at the C.S. Lewis Summer Institute at Cambridge University, Hong Kong, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil. An avid history buff, Jane Ellen spends much of her time researching and presenting lecture programs on various music and religion topics. When not engaged in musical pursuits, she enjoys designing websites, old movies, classic and mystery novels, and studying Italian.
