Okay, call me sentimental, but Jerry Ernst's In Love and War gets to me every time, especially his beautiful renderings of the Welsh tune All Through the Night, the classic Home Sweet Home, and the closing track, My Old Kentucky Home. These 18 tunes portray the softer, gentler side of the Civil War Era, all of them in their original, historic versions, which sound refreshingly different from their modern counterparts. This CD, perhaps more than any of the others by Ernst, puts you in touch with the emotions of the people, as they persevered in the midst of a struggle which literally tore nation and families asunder. I've never seen another CD with similar repertoire; this is a must for your Civil War collection.
