Grace Notes: SAI's Own Centennial Composers

The music performed at the Centennial Convention may have faded to a beautiful memory, but much of it has become firmly planted in the hearts of SAIs everywhere as they learn the new songs in the Centennial Songbook, a supplement to the SAI Songbook. These compositions written by our talented sisters are destined to become "standards" in the early years of our second century. The winning composers and their compositions have interesting stories. Here they are:

Jane Ellen, Alpha Sigma, "Ritual Postlude"
Jane Ellen is a national award-winning composer, member of ASCAP with over 40 publications, and SAI's Composers Bureau Director. Read more about her on page 62 . . .
Composers Bureau Director Jane Ellen, an initiate of Alpha Sigma, earned the BA degree from the University of New Mexico (UNM), summa cum laude, with double majors in Music Performance (Piano) and Religious Studies. As an undergraduate she was awarded membership in Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Beta Phi, Sigma Alpha Iota, Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges, and the Golden Key Honor Society, and was the first recipient of the UNM Friends of Religious Studies Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Jane has also been included in various biographical references, including Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in the 21st Century, Who's Who in Classical Music (19th ed.), 2000 Outstanding Musicians of the 20th Century, and 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century. Involved in church music ministry for 25 years, she continues to serve as substitute organist at her parish church.
