INTRODUCTION
"I am a native New Orleanian. I was born and raised in the Crescent City and hope to be put to rest there. New Orleans is an odd place to grow up. There is a freedom there that is seldom seen elsewhere. Part of that freedom I attribute to our burial practices. The city is below sea level...some thirty feet or so below sea level. That means we cannot bury our dead in the ground. One good flood and you have caskets floating into your front yard. As you can see, no boring above ground burials here. We believe that your home for eternity should be as comfy as your home during life. This is a city that will send off a friend with a Jazz tune and a huge dinner. What finer farewell can you ask for?"

A NORMAL CEMETERY

"The Heigle tomb in the foreground is one of a dear friend's departed grandmother. I took this shot to show what a normal cemetery in New Orleans looks like. Sort of goes on forever. Perhaps this is why we New Orleanians are not afraid of death."
