Friendship

The pop duo Simon and Garfunkel had a hit song in the 1960s entitled I Am A Rock. The lyrics spoke to many throughout the years who were faced with loneliness and chose to accept it bitterly, feeling rejected by the world, not to mention their peer group. It seemed easier to turn to books, or poetry, or even fantasy, than to deal with the vulnerability of once more attempting to make friends. But the fact remains, we all need friends.

Go to any web-based greeting card company, and you will find multiple dates available for "Friendship Day," "Friendship Week," "Friendship Month," or even "Hug-a-Friend Day." The simple truth is, the fraility of the human condition demands loving friendship, and plenty of it. This section celebrates the joys of that special kinship shared between friends. Remember, Friendship Day IS every day!
