The Celtic Art of Courtney Davis

The dictionary defines serendipity as the phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for, in other words, a random occurance or happenstance. A newsletter arrived in my mailbox one morning this spring from artist Courtney Davis. To this day I don't know how I happened to be on his mailing list, but being a great fan of Celtic art, I immediately began to investigate links. What I found was a treasure trove of images, in various media, all shining with a brilliant inner light -- even those that were in a single colour format.

So just who is Courtney Davis? He is perhaps Celtic Art's best kept secret, although his fame is spreading steadily on both sides of the pond. During the past twenty years Davis has produced thousands of images, many of which are now featured in a series of books, as well as on window stickers, candles, t-shirts, and greeting cards. In an interview with author Michael Ball, Davis speaks of the creative flow: "When I start a picture I don't necessarily know what I'm going to draw - often the image will change as I'm working on it. It's taken me a long time to learn to just go with the flow of the picture rather than trying to plan how it's going to develop."
After exploring his various websites and becoming completely enthralled by his magical, mystical work, I wrote to Courtney asking permission to build a page featuring his work on this site. He readily agreed, and you are viewing the results. I had originally intended to showcase his work of saints like Patrick and Brigid on this initial page, but after much deliberation I finally decided upon the works presented herein. If you are a fan of Celtic art, I would urge you to explore the work of Courtney Davis further.
