The Unicorn

Silver-white in the soft moonglow --
Starlight sparkling on spiraled horn --
In solitary majesty
Stood the beautiful unicorn.

Alone and lonely in the night,
He seemed to feel as lost as I.
His beauty touched my barren heart
And tears filled eyes too proud to cry.

Softly I called, slowly drew near;
I dared not frighten him away.
How could I make him understand
I, too, was lonely? What could I say?

Gently I stroked his silken mane.
So lovely -- yet so wild and free!
Surveying me with golden eyes,
He slowly turned and followed me.
